Careers at FHWS

The ongoing expansion of the Center for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (CAIRO) is opening up promising career opportunities for researchers with the right background.

Starting from the fundamental areas of intelligence (perceiving, reasoning and acting) along with a concept-based representation of knowledge, it is possible to distinguish the interlinked subfields of AI, i.e. perception and conceptualization (perceiving), problem recognition and conceptual solving (acting) and conceptual learning (central reasoning).

CAIRO is establishing dedicated focal points for these defined areas which will be supported on the basis of several research professorships.

Professorship for Reasoning and Acting in Artificial Intelligence and Foundations of Cognitive Computing – Artificial Cognitive Recognition and Solution

We are seeking a researcher in the field of reasoning and acting in artificial intelligence and foundations of cognitive computing with in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge. This position requires profound mastery of techniques and applications in the following areas: Reasoning, planning and scheduling as well as acting in AI. Profound knowledge of the foundations of artificial intelligence, data mining and machine learning is also necessary. Other relevant topics are cognitive models in the area of reasoning and decision-making, reinforcement learning, probabilistic and fuzzy models and corresponding optimization approaches. You will be active not only in the area of applied research but also in teaching of the related subjects, especially to students in our new master’s programme in artificial intelligence. This degree programme is taught exclusively in English. However, you should also be ready and able to teach in German where necessary.

Professorship for Representation and Learning in Artificial Intelligence – Artificial Cognitive Learning

We are seeking a researcher in the field of representation and learning in artificial intelligence with in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge. This position requires profound mastery of the techniques and applications that are used for data representation and learning in the area of machine learning and artificial intelligence. You will be active not only in the area of applied research but also in teaching of the related subjects, especially to students in our new master’s programme in artificial intelligence. This degree programme is taught exclusively in English. However, you should also be ready and able to teach in German where necessary. Profound knowledge of the foundations of artificial intelligence, data mining and machine learning is also necessary. Other relevant topics include learning for structured data, relational learning, relational data mining, neural networks for structured data (sequences, trees, graphs), recurrent neural networks, deep learning, reservoir computing and related approaches.

Professorship for Semantic Data Processing and Cognitive Computing – Artificial Cognitive Perception and Speech

We are seeking a researcher in the field of representation and learning in artificial intelligence with in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge. This position requires profound mastery of the techniques and applications used for semantic data processing as well as in the field of cognitive AI. Profound knowledge of the foundations of artificial intelligence, data mining and machine learning is also necessary. Other relevant topics include natural language processing, semantic web technologies, question answering systems, knowledge databases and linked data. You will be active not only in the area of applied research but also in teaching of the related subjects, especially to students in our new master’s programme in artificial intelligence. This degree programme is taught exclusively in English. However, you should also be ready and able to teach in German where necessary.

Professorship for Robotics and Artificial Intelligence – Artificial Cognitive Motion

We are seeking a researcher in the field of robotics and artificial intelligence with in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge. This position requires profound mastery of the techniques and applications used in AI technologies in robotics and technical systems. Profound knowledge of the foundations of artificial intelligence, data mining and machine learning is also necessary. Other relevant topics include robot- and human-computer interaction, robot intelligence, learning with autonomous and adaptive systems, machine vision, probabilistic models, uncertainty and planning. You will be active not only in the area of applied research but also in teaching of the related subjects, especially to students in our new master’s programme in artificial intelligence. This degree programme is taught exclusively in English. However, you should also be ready and able to teach in German where necessary. We also expect you to work in close cooperation with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and the new bachelor's programme in robotics.
